Four Ways to Import Offline Conversions into Google Ads
Manual upload, scheduled sheet, API, or server side. Here is what each one costs you in time and what it buys you.

There are four ways to get offline conversions into Google Ads. This post compares them honestly so you can pick the one that matches your volume and your team, instead of building the wrong one and rebuilding in six months.
The four options
1. Manual file upload
Export a CSV, upload it in Google Ads under Conversions, then Uploads.
Good for: testing, one off backfills, proving the concept before you automate.
Bad for: anything ongoing. Nobody sustains a weekly manual upload past month two. I have never seen it last.
2. Scheduled import from a sheet or URL
Point Google Ads at a Google Sheets tab or an HTTPS file and let it pull daily.
Good for: most small and mid sized businesses. No developer, no server, and it keeps running when everyone forgets about it.
Bad for: high volume, complex logic, or feeding several platforms at once.
Full walkthrough: offline conversions with Google Sheets, and the Stape version with the automation script: read it here.
3. An automation tool
A Zapier or Make scenario fires on a CRM stage change and posts the conversion.
Good for: teams that already run one of these, and for branching logic like sending to several platforms with different rules.
Bad for: very high volume, where per task pricing starts to bite.
4. The Google Ads API
Your system posts conversions directly.
Good for: high volume, complex stage logic, adjustments and retractions, and anyone who already has engineering capacity.
Bad for: teams without a developer. OAuth, developer tokens and error handling are a real project, not an afternoon.
Details: uploading with the Google Ads API.
Choosing, in one paragraph
Under a few hundred conversions a month with no developer, use the scheduled sheet. With an automation tool already in the stack and some branching needed, use that. Feeding three or more ad platforms from one pipeline, use server side GTM. With volume and engineers, use the API.
Do not start with the API because it sounds more professional. Start with the sheet, learn what your data actually looks like, then graduate.
What every method needs regardless
A captured click ID: how to capture GCLID
A conversion action in Google Ads with source Import
A conversion time inside 90 days of the click
A value and currency, ideally a real one: setting offline conversion values
Deduplication, so the same outcome is never uploaded twice
That last one causes more inflated reporting than any other single mistake. Flag rows as uploaded and never send them again.
Before you finish
Do one manual upload before automating anything. It teaches you the format faster than documentation.
Confirm the conversion name matches exactly.
Confirm your timezone declaration matches the account.
Set up a weekly reconciliation: deals closed in your CRM versus conversions imported. A stable gap is fine, a growing gap is a broken pipeline.
FAQ
Can I switch methods later?
Yes, easily. The conversion action stays the same, only the delivery changes. Starting simple costs you nothing later.
Will imported conversions affect Smart Bidding?
Only if the conversion action is set as primary. That is usually what you want, once you trust the data: primary and secondary conversions.
How often should I upload?
Daily. More often adds nothing because Google Ads processes in batches anyway, and less often delays the signal bidding learns from.
What if I have no CRM at all?
No CRM at all, and you want the simplest possible version? I wrote a full walkthrough of that for Stape using nothing but a spreadsheet: Google Ads offline conversion tracking without a CRM. Click to read it here.
Need this built properly?
Pick the simplest method that survives your volume, then upgrade when it stops. I set up and repair tracking for ecommerce stores and lead generation businesses, so the numbers in your ad accounts match the money in your bank account.
